Tampa Yacht Manufacturing Tempest 50-FAC, Fast Attack Craft, is an interdiction and patrol-class vessel that is purpose-built for naval and border security operations. The 50-FAC is a tactically sized, reconfigurable, combatant craft capable of operations from land or maritime platforms. The hull is a modified Deep V design for coastal and near shore operations in varying sea and weather conditions. The craft is also designed for high speed, open ocean transits.
The 50-FAC utilises the high-speed Tempest hull design, proven by years of customs and coast guard operations, combined with Tampa Yacht Manufacturing experience of military craft requirements, engineering, construction and quality assurance. The vessel is built to ‘RINA-MIL Fast Patrol Vessels’ class using carbon-fiber reinforcement in high-stress hull areas and full composite construction throughout.
The 50-FAC couples fuel-efficient twin MAN R6-800 hp diesel engines with UltraJet water-jet propulsion to create a rugged and versatile vessel with shallow-draft capabilities. In this configuration the 50-FAC is suited to providing patrol and surveillance capabilities in shallow coastal and riverine waters. An Arneson surface drive performance package with a triple power plant is also available.
Dedicated seating is provided in the cabin for the 16 crew and passengers, who are ballistic protected to NIJ Level III-A ballistic protection in the cabin side, windows and watertight doors. The cabin is fitted with an overhead hatch, galley, ammunition and weapons stowage, head / toilet, and freshwater. Optional redundant engine instrumentation and starboard helm station includes shift throttle controls, joy stick bow thruster control and hydraulic steering. The 50-FAC also features an optional forward bow ramp for ingress and egress directly to shore.
