Tampa Yacht Manufacturing Tempest 40-RHIB is a high speed interceptor / patrol craft. The 40-RHIB has been specifically developed and built to meet the demands of military and professional users, including the ability to counter high speed threats and to provide protection during VBSS operations. The 40-RHIB is designed to stay on plane at lower speeds in rough water than conventional hulls.
The 40-RHIB utilises the high-speed Tempest hull design, proven by years of ocean racing and endurance runs, combined with Tampa Yacht Manufacturing experience of military craft requirements, engineering, construction and quality assurance. The craft is built to ‘RINA-MIL Fast Patrol Vessels’ class using carbon-fibre reinforcement in high-stress hull areas and full composite construction.
The 40-RHIB combines the Tempest hull with the RHIB concept, offering reduced weight and reduced aerodynamic / hydrodynamic drag, plus increased stability for heavily loaded craft at high speed. The lightweight, foam filled, puncture resistant fendering / flotation collar provides shock mitigating characteristics and improved ride quality. Variable geometry sponsons increase hull efficiency and overall buoyancy where fuel, engine and passenger loads are centered.
Enhanced performance propulsion is provided by Arneson surface drives. The optional joystick steering and bow thruster offer greater maneuverability for docking and close quarter operations. An optional waterjet propulsion package is available for shallow water operations. The 2 crew and 10 passengers are ballistic protected to NIJ Level III standards in the cabin. Optional crew served weapons mounts facilitate armament if required. Internal options include cabin HVAC and NVIS compatible lighting. The 40-RHIB is available with an optional heavy duty trailer for road transport.
