Team Britannia - Round The World Powerboat

Team Britannia is a multi-million pound British bid led by ocean adventurer Alan Priddy to design and build the fastest and most fuel-efficient wave-slicing powerboat to circumnavigate the globe for the much coveted UIM world record. This is currently held by New Zealander Pete Bethune at 60 days 23 hours 49 minutes.

The Team Britannia powerboat is 80 feet (24 metres) long with an exceptionally efficient hull.

Alan Priddy's experiences of ocean adventure has contributed to the creation of this super boat. Constructed in the UK from aluminium, she has been designed by the renowned naval architect Professor Bob Cripps, who was the Engineering Manager at the RNLI for 18 years before his roles as Technical Director at VT Halmatic and Director of the Engineering College for BAE Systems Surface Ships.

Completion of the boat, which includes attaching the wheelhouse, flybridge and decks, along with fuel tanks, engines, jet drives and interior fittings, continued through 2017, with launching expected in 2018. After the boat is in the water, there will be a comprehensive programme of sea trials and record attempts prior to the circumnavigation itself later in the year.

A fully British designed, manufactured and campaigned Super Boat that is the fastest and most fuel-efficient powerboat to circumnavigate the globe for the much coveted UIM World Record - currently held by New Zealand.

Who are the Great British Circumnavigation Record team?

Portsmouth-based Alan Priddy is the world’s leader in offshore expeditions, and is the current holder of 37 World Records. Alan is working with a carefully chosen team of highly driven like-minded professionals, some of whom are also crew for the voyage to bring this record back to Britain.

How fast will they go?

It’s not a question of how fast they will go although the boats top speed is circa 50 mph. The voyage will be run on averages. The current World Record was set at an average speed of 16.8 knots (19 mph) so the teams are evenly matched.

How long is the race?

The British team’s route is approximately 23,850 nautical miles.

How will they refuel?

The World Record Authorities stipulate that the boat has to fuel in recognised harbours.

Who are the crew?

The crew are Alan Priddy, Dr Jan Falkowski, Clive Tully, Steve Mason, Andy Reid, Robert Mackenzie, Daisy Coleman and John Sandford Hart.
