The 2015 Progressive Insurance Miami International Boat Show, 12 to 16 February 2015, in Miami Florida spans three locations - Miami Beach Convention Center, Sea Isle Marina and Miamarina at Bayside.

The 2015 Progressive Insurance Miami International Boat show hosts 2,000 companies from across the globe and more than 3,000 boats including luxury motor boats, sailing yachts, sport fishing boats, personal water craft and offshore racing boats.

The annual event draws over 100,000 attendees from the US and overseas to explore the boats and attend various seminars and workshops. New for 2015 is the Accessory Pavilion, showcasing the latest marine equipment, engines and electronics.

‘Hands-On Skills Training’ is an on-the-water learning event taught by USCG licensed captains who are professional, certified instructors. Located at Sea Isle Marina topics include Essential Boating Safety, First Mate Skills, Basic Close Quarters Maneuvering Skills, Anchoring & Multi-Vessel Rafting Techniques, Open Water Boat Handling & Seamanship plus Advanced Docking & Precision Boat Control In Tight Spaces.

The Miami International Boat Show is produced by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), which represents the recreational boating industry. NMMA member companies produce more than 80 percent of the boats, engines, trailers, accessories and gear used by boaters and anglers throughout the US and Canada.

Miami Marine Stadium

At a press event held in November 2014 at Miami Marine Stadium, representatives from the Miami International Boat Show announced that they have committed to hosting the boat show in 2016 and 2017 at the stadium and its grounds while exploring it as a long-term home. The announcement follows months of speculation over the boat show’s future in the city due to the renovation of the Miami Beach Convention Center, which is slated to begin in 2016.

Miami Marine Stadium was built on Virginia Key as the first purpose-built venue for powerboat racing in the United States.

The stadium hosted many world-class powerboat events including Unlimited Hydroplane, Inboard, Outboard, Performance Craft, Stock, Modified, and Grand National divisions. It was the site of many nationally televised events including the Bill Muncey Invitational and the ESPN All American Challenge Series

Dedicated as the Ralph Munroe Marine Stadium in 1963 the stadium was built at a cost of $1 million and the basin was dredged for approximately $900,000. The 6,566 seat stadium was designed by architect Hilario Candela, a 28-year-old recent immigrant from Cuba. Considered a Modernist icon because of its cantilevered, fold-plate roof and construction of lightweight, poured-in-place concrete. Its eight slanted columns are anchored in the ground and at 326 feet in length (longer than a football field), it was the longest span of cantilevered concrete in the world when it was built.

In the wake of Hurricane Andrew, it was declared an unsafe building under Miami-Dade County building code and shuttered by the City of Miami in September 1992. An engineering study demonstrated it was sound and not damaged by the hurricane but it was still closed to the public. Since then, the stadium has become a haven for vandals, graffiti artists and taggers.

Miami Marine Stadium is a long-shuttered masterpiece of modern architecture that in 2009 was declared one of America’s most endangered historic places by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The agreement with the Miami International Boat Show allows the restoration of the stadium to begin in earnest.
