Torqeedo Deep Blue Electric Motor is designed to provide propulsion for commercial craft. The Deep Blue electric drive has been industrially developed and manufactured using high-tech components. The gearbox is matched to the specific requirements of Deep Blue drives and is designed to be low maintenance. The drive system is available as inboard and outboard version delivering 40 hp and 80 hp. Twin systems can deliver up to 160 hp.
The high efficiency Deep Blue vector-controlled brushless motor is suitable for salt water cooling. The motor and motor electronics are waterproof to IP67 with CAN interface NMEA2000 / J1939. The Deep Blue high-voltage lithium battery has been adapted from the automotive industry for use in boats. Batteries are waterproof to IP67 and damped, as they can be subject to high levels of vibration and shock. Batteries come with a nine year capacity warranty.
The electronic remote throttle has Power-Trim-and-Tilt (PTT) function, including neutral lock and a ‘kill switch’ for the entire system. The Deep Blue on-board computer has a 150mm (5.7“) touchscreen display. 14 different screen options deliver information including GPS-based range, speed over ground and battery charge status. The system can include multiple destinations with range, distance and arrival time information for each.
Integrated engineering of the overall system enables Deep Blue to comply with relevant safety standards. A pilot line runs through the shielded cables and all high-voltage connections of the Deep Blue system. The pilot line, with automatic shut off, constantly monitors cables for damage and to ensure that connectors are plugged in. The battery venting system ensures that cells have their own internal safety mechanism.
