Amphibious Capability :

Add to Existing Hulls

On Water:

Hydraulic Retractable Wheels

On Land:

Motorised Steerable Wheels

Sealegs System:

Integrated / Turn-Key

Sealegs Amphibious Enablement System enables boat builders to add amphibious capability to existing hull forms. The Sealegs system consists of motorised, retractable and steerable wheels which are fitted to new or in-service boats to give users a fully integrated, turn-key package. The Sealegs system works by having motorised wheels powered by an on-board auxilliary engine, or main engine power take off, for hydraulic pump. This gives a user variable speed, both forward and reverse, on land.

Sealegs enabled boats are designed to seamlessly travel over both land and water with variable propeller and wheel propulsion. The Sealegs system give rescue and patrol organizations multi-role capabilities to carry-out effective and rapid response in challenging environments. Amphibious rescue craft offer the ability to perform critical missions in areas previously considered inaccessible.

The handling objectives for adding Sealegs amphibious capability to planing hull forms include maintaining hydrodynamic performance and keeping additional weight to a minimum. The engineering design objectives include minimal changes to existing hull structure and low intrusion of internal hull space. The Sealegs additive amphibious technology includes hydraulic deployment of wheel assemblies and power assisted hydraulic steering.

Sealegs enabled boats can be driven from a storage location, down a boat ramp or beach and into the water. Once in the water, the Sealegs wheels are easily retracted into the ‘UP’ position and are completely out of the water. The boat is then driven and used as normal. When approaching land the Sealegs wheels are lowered into the ‘DOWN’ position whilst still moving through the water. When the Sealegs wheels touch the bottom the boat can be driven up onto land.
