Gator Guards KeelShield & SkegShield are designed to protect the lowest point of the hull and engine leg. The keel is the first part of the hull to impact on concrete boat ramps and when running aground on sand or stone beaches. The skeg on an outboard or outdrive leg is the first part of the engine that touches the bottom in shallow water.
KeelShield, made with pure Urethane Polymers, offers keel protection and a level of impact absorption. The 125mm (5”) wide shield offers durable protection from abrasions and scratches for the keel of fibreglass or aluminum boats. KeelShield uses a high strength 3M adhesive backing and is available in 11 colours and lengths from 1.2 metre (4 feet) to 30 metre (100 feet). Kevlar KeelShield, made with Kevlar Aramid fibres, offers greater wear resistance.
KeelShield can be fitted to new and in service craft operating in shallow water, likely to beach or stored on deck. KeelShield can be fitted over steel keelbands where regular hard impact has caused lifting. Adding KeelShield over a steel keel retains the boat's original integrity plus increases shock absorption and dissipation at point of impact.
SkegShield is constructed of 22 gauge, mirror finish polished 316 marine grade stainless steel. SkegShield is reinforced on the lower edge for maximum protection and has an integrated drain hole to prevent water retention and corrosion. Four low profile stainless steel Allen head machine bolts enable easy installation, removal and reuse. SkegShields are custom manufactured to size for specific lower units. Skegshield can be fitted on craft operating in shallow water or likely to ‘hard beach' to increase skeg strength and reduce lower-unit repairs. High and Low vis nylon coating are optional extras.
