Barrus Special Marine Products Division custom-build engines for demanding end-users including military and professional rescue organisations. Barrus are experienced in long term contracts for the supply, overhaul and repair of all outboard and inboard diesel engines. This can include related post design services and in-service support.

Barrus has designed, developed and delivered a multi fuel 50hp outboard trial engine under licence for the UK MoD, capable of running on four NATO fuels, NATO F34 AVTUR (JP8), NATO F44 AVCAT (JP5), NATO F67 (Gasoline – unleaded) and NATO F76 (Diesel – Naval). Barrus also has developed a Yanmar diesel powered salt-water pump that is ideal for rescue applications. Search and rescue craft and helicopters use the salvage water pump and fluid pump as part of on-board rescue equipment.

Barrus is also a leader in the development of Post Immersion Restart Engines for use in rescue and military operations. The unique, patented FAST PIRS system enables an engine to be restarted after complete submersion within just 40 seconds. This entails evacuating all the water from the cylinder head, transfer ports and fuel system.

Barrus has designed, proven and patented a comprehensive range of accessories to enhance operational tasks including outboard propeller guards, jet drives from 20hp to 250hp, transit frames, engine lifting harness, umbilical tube, rotationally cast fuel tanks, waterproof hour meters, reversible carrying handles and High Integrity Power Supply (HIPS).
